We live in polarised times when the very idea of a debate can be anxiety-inducing. YDF wants to challenge the narrative by fostering a culture of healthy debating through a college outreach program: a virtual, solutions-oriented debate among students.

'Social Media is an integral part of this generation’s culture. How can it also become a safe space for all?'
Our Speakers
Experts from India and abroad will deliver the keynote address on topics that matter.
Participants
Students from four different streams from colleges across India – Journalism, Law, Commerce, and Engineering in a virtual face-off.
Jury
An international jury of subject matter experts will evaluate the participants based on a detailed rubric.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
Dr. Arun Surendran
Strategic Director & Principal, Trinity College of Engineering, Kerala, India
Dr. Arun Surendran is the Strategic Director and Principal of Trinity College of Engineering Trivandrum. He is also the Honorary Fellow for Robotics for the Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) and Senior Fellow of the Defence Research and Studies (DRaS) thinktank. He is a mentor for the Kerala Development & Innovation Strategic Council’s (K-DISC) Young Innovator program and core group member of the Kerala Knowledge Economy Mission. Dr. Arun is Founder Director of Adcy.io Cybersecurity Solutions. He has authored two books – The Startup Habit and The 7Cs of Entrepreneurship. He has also produced the award-winning documentary, Fragments of Illusion on the Chavittunatakam dance form.
Dr. Arun holds his Masters and PhD in Aerospace Engineering from the Texas A&M University after his BTech from IIT Bombay. He was awarded the prestigious Eppright Outstanding International Student award, the highest honor given by the Texas A&M University to any international student.
Co-Founder at MIL for ASEAN, Penang, Malaysia
Lai is a Manager at SEAMEO RECSAM (Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization – Regional Centre for Education in Science and Mathematics) based in Penang, Malaysia. As Co-Founder of Media and Information Literacy (MIL) for ASEAN (MIL4ASEAN) Network, Lai aims to equip teachers with the ability to integrate MIL across curriculum, and to improve the community’s resilience to misinformation & disinformation in the Southeast Asian region. Lai has over a decade of experience in communication and media. She was selected for the U.S. Department of State Professional Fellows Program in 2015 and Japan Young Leaders Program by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in 2013, for her passionate advocacy of teachers’ continuous professional development for sustainable development. In 2018, YSEALI Women’s Leadership Academy backed by the U.S. Mission to ASEAN and Wedu, featured Lai as a young female leader in the network.
